The NTDTV Chinese New Year Global Gala: New York

VIP Greetings: Delaware Officials

Mayor of City of Wilmington
James Baker

The Chinese New Year is on the January 29th. Of course we’ve already celebrated ours on the first. Just to show you the similarity between all of us, we are just 28 days apart in terms of how we celebrate the beginning of a new time. That is what I think is the most important – a celebration of a new beginning. We all celebrated together.

Obviously, we all want a great future and happiness and peace in our lives. I wish that for all of you. If you have a chance to come to Wilmington, we do appreciate having you here and welcome you to enjoy this city and enjoy this great country as well, as we have people go to China to enjoy and see China. Happy New Year! Xin Tang Ren, Xin Nian Hao!

Director of Cultural Affairs, City of Wilmington
Tina Betz

Welcome to Wilmington! We are glad to be able to meet you, whether you are actually here in the city or visiting us via this wonderful telecast. We hope that someday we will have a chance to actually visit you where you are or you visit us where we are if you haven’t done that already. It is important because we are talking to millions of people, and we are talking in a way that is open and free. That is something we take for granted I think often here in United States. We do speak our mind and get a chance to be heard. This effort by this television network to give voice or to give ear to voices that are often not heard, is very important in that step for bridging the gaps between us.

Wilmington City Council President
Theodore Blunt

It is most certainly a pleasure for us to participate in this process. It gives us an opportunity to bring various cultures right here to Wilmington. More importantly, it is to essential let those in China to see us Americans to participate in the Chinese New Year celebration.

Wilmington City
Councilman at-large
Theopalis Gregory

My name is Theopalis Gregory, I’m a city council person at-large. First let me say Happy New Year to the Chinese community here in our small community and elsewhere throughout the world; we wish you a prosperous year as we do all folks on earth. Let me first congratulate you on your efforts and your energies to get this happening in your country firstly and secondly to say that I’m a firm believer that information and education is power so it makes sense for a suppressive government to try to keep people from being educated and having information. I do believe that it is very important to any group of people to be educated and to have information. So again, congratulations on your breakthrough in bringing information to your community. I want to wish you a happy and prosperous new year and may things be well and blessed for you in the next 12 months. Xing Nian Hao!

City council is very appreciative for being chosen as one of the host cities for the 2006 NTDTV Global Gala. I commend the New Tang Dynasty for its production for the Global Gala and the GPACC for their hard work and commitment to share the rich Chinese culture and history with the world. Xin Nian Hao! (Happy New Year!)

New Castle County Councilman

Xin Tang Ren, Xin Nian Hao!

Please, in you new year, be proud of who you are. Practice the lion dance. It’s a beautiful art form. Continue doing this. It bridges the 2 cultures together. The lion dance which I performed before is very interesting. People love it, the Americans love watching that. Keep your culture and heritage alive by continuing and learning how to do that. I thank you keep the Chinese culture and we do need that across the world. Not only Americans should see that, Chinese people, mainland, and Taiwan and the rest of the world should see lion dance. Thank you!
