Chinese New Year Greeting

I would like to wish all viewers of New Tang Dynasty Television a happy, healthy and prosperous Chinese New Year. I extend special good wishes to all those born in the Year of the Dog.

It is important to recall the Chinese community in New Zealand is one of long standing - in fact since the gold field days of the eighteen sixties - and it is pleasing to note that this generation of New Zealanders is a at last developing a very positive perception of that historical and continuing contribution to what it is that makes us all uniquely New Zealanders.

All over the world Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year as a part of their unique culture and tradition. In New Zealand, Chinese New Year gives us all an opportunity to enjoy Chinese culture and to celebrate our county's ethnic diversity.

It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the Chinese community's contribution to New Zealand, and the integral part it plays in enriching us economically, socially and culturally.
